Creating Access Through Partnership: The Kusp x Somesuch
Working together to open doors for the next generation of creative talent.
Creating a more inclusive creative industry requires more than good intentions. It requires action, collaboration and a shared commitment to creating opportunities for emerging talent.
That's why our partnership with Somesuch is so important - and has been for the past 5-years.
Together, we've been working to create meaningful pathways into the creative industries, helping aspiring creatives gain access to the knowledge, networks and opportunities that can shape future careers.
Why industry partnerships matter
For many diverse creatives, entering the industry can feel overwhelming. Since 2021, we have been working Somesuch to mitigate barriers to entry within the industry through workshops, masterclasses, emerging director showcases, industry mixers and work opportunities.
Through our work with Somesuch, participants have been able to hear first-hand experiences from leading creatives, gain valuable insight into different career paths, and better understand the realities of working within film, advertising and production.
With proven success stories with diverse talent, Renee Maria Osubu, to taking our showcase experiences with them to the sunny side of Los Angeles in United States - we have managed to positively impact over 650 film-focussed creatives throughout our partnership.
The creative sector is full of opportunity, but understanding how to access those opportunities isn't always straightforward. Industry partnerships help bridge that gap by providing direct connections between emerging talent and established professionals.
Learning from industry leaders
One of the most powerful aspects of the partnership has been the opportunity for emerging creatives to engage directly with professionals working at the highest levels of the industry.
These conversations provide practical guidance that can't always be found in classrooms, online tutorials or job descriptions.
Creatives we have supported through the long-standing partnership have been able to:
Build a sustainable creative career in the commercial film and TV industry
Gain mentorship from industry leaders and develop professional networks
Get their first job in the creative industries through internships and trainee positions
Finding their own creative voice
Understanding routes into production and storytelling
By demystifying the industry, these interactions help participants feel more confident about pursuing their ambitions.
Building stronger creative networks
We understand that access to professional networks often influences who gets opportunities, who receives guidance, and who is able to navigate challenges successfully. We ensure that community-building is embedded within our partnership; so emerging creatives have been able to build meaningful connections with industry professionals who understand the value of supporting future talent.
These connections often continue beyond individual events, creating longer-term opportunities for learning, mentorship and collaboration.
A shared commitment to inclusion
At The Kusp, we continue to seek authentic partnerships that create legacy and our partnership with Somesuch reflects a shared commitment to building a creative industry that is more representative, accessible and inclusive.
Our mission has always been to building a global community where diverse talent can call anywhere locally, nationally or globally their creative hub. We’re doing that one step at a time. Through partnerships like this, we’ll build stronger, and more diverse creative sector.
